Instructions:

Sift flour into a suitable bowl, mix with yeast and sugar, make a hollow in the center, heat milk in a saucepan and add half of the butter. Pour it into the dough and knead it with an egg and salt until it becomes smooth and soft. If the dough is too wet, add a little more flour. Once the dough no longer sticks, and comes away from the edge of the bowl, shape into a ball. Dust with a little flour, cover with a kitchen towel and let rise in a warm draft-free place for 3-4 hours.

2. preheat the electric oven to 160 °C. Knead the dough and cut off small portions. On a floured surface, roll finger-thick rolls about 20 cm long. Form the dough rolls into a curl (circle) and press both ends together. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover with a dishcloth and let rise for another 30 minutes.

Bake the dough balls in the oven at 160 degrees (gas mark 1-2) for 20 minutes. Take out and cool. Melt the rest of the butter and brush the curls with it. Return to the stove and bake for 5 min until golden brown but not too dark. Cool completely on the baking sheet.

Tip: The dough can be cooked the night before, the Gebaec will then be all the more fine pored.
